Managerial Search (part 257)

So it is goodbye Bruce and hello to whoever is the replacement.

We make a point at the Trust of not overstepping our boundaries on what happens on the pitch. We might have a view on how the football side is going. Though primarily we are here to represent supporters on a variety of issues such as ticket pricing, safe standing etc…. We also work in the community by supporting grassroots football. It isn’t for us to demand the manager’s head on a pike outside the ground on a match day.

It is worth comment though re Bruce. He came, made us defensively tighter initially and left us pretty much where we started and a fair few quid worse off.

Some members have been sharpening that pike I mentioned before for a long time and others would still give him more time to resolve things. Such is life.

We won’t comment on who the club might bring in next at this point. But all we will say is that more of the same won’t be tolerated. We need an appointment that shows some ambition, both to get promoted but also to keep us up, should we be successful in that. Something enjoyable to watch would be a start.

I guess our message is to thank him for stopping the rot but agree that maybe someone else needs a shot if we are to achieve promotion. Onwards and upwards.

A Demand Before Action?

Hello everyone. We hope you are enjoying the weather. It has been two weeks since we last posted anything so thought we should keep you up to date. The AVST board met earlier this week and still have grave misgivings about our current situation. We have asked questions and demanded an urgent meeting but it has fallen on deaf ears. So we now write an open letter to the owner seeking urgent clarification on where we stand. Dear Tony, We are writing to you to…

It is a start, but….

Another week, what seems like another 500 years of fretting about the Villa. First of all, welcome aboard to our new members. I know that we have attracted some attention in these uncertain times and we will do all we can to ensure the club is on an even keel. As always though, not only is your voice important but so is that of your friends and family members. Please encourage them to sign up as well. The more members we have the more potent…

What next? (Part Two)

The AVST Board love the Summer normally. It is when we get to step away from football, watch a bit of cricket and do all of the family stuff we put off for ten months each year. It hasn’t worked out like that over the last few days though… We released a statement what seems like weeks rather than days ago now requesting that the club make clear to our members, and all supporters, what Plan B entails. We said that our support can deal…

What Next?

Aston Villa Supporters’ Trust share with all of our supporters the acute disappointment following our failure to rejoin the Premier League last Saturday. That defeat has posed huge question marks about Villa’s immediate financial future and, inevitably, the future of Steve Bruce. Next season we will have to manage without the experienced loan players and, possibly, the jewels in our playing crown if sales have to be made to meet the demands of FFP. Whilst we appreciate the owner’s words earlier in the week, we…

New Patron: Nigel Spink

“Aston Villa has always had a special place in my heart. In only my second game for the club I was involved in a very famous occasion when I came on in the European Cup Final, only 10 minutes into the match. I certainly had a busy night and whilst many say to me “It must have been all downhill from there”. It is true, I never played in another European Cup final. I did go on to have a wonderful career though and made…

“We are not fickle….”

Another View From The Board. I’m Neil James, Director of Affiliate Memberships. As I write this article it’s a grey, miserable, rainy day here in Warwickshire but I’m feeling pretty happy right now as I’m still basking in the (old) golden glow of our stunning victory over the Wolves! It’s a pretty good time to be a Villa fan right now and we should enjoy these moments as (let’s be honest here) we haven’t had too many to savour in recent years! Since our last…

Nottingham Station Fire

You may have seen in the news that a significant fire broke out at Nottingham train station at around 6.30am today. The station remains closed and this will likely have an impact on travel arrangements for our supporters attending the game with Nottingham Forest tomorrow. We are in touch with the club and will update you as soon as we know more.

View From The Board: Stuart Griffin

Our members have mentioned that they want us to be more visible. A chat at the AGM each year isn’t enough to get to know us properly. So this is the first, in what will be a monthly update, with views on how we are going from members of of the AVST Executive Board. First up, me, Stuart Griffin. The best way I can describe the season so far is “alright”. We are in the play off places but still a bit behind where we…

Missing Season Cards

AVST has been contacted by a number of members concerned that they are still to receive season cards and in respect of the difficulties on contacting the Ticket Office to obtain individual match tickets. We have been in touch with the club on a number of occasions over last couple of weeks in this regard and have been promised an imminent announcement on the Aston Villa website about what to do in the event of your season card not arriving in time for Saturday’s game…
