FSF: Support Safe Standing

The Football Supporters’ Federation (FSF) has today launched an on-line petition on Safe Standing, something dear to the hearts of many fans who’d like the choice to sit or stand in safety as they wish. Every independent survey of supporter opinion shows huge majorities in favour of this choice. To sign the petition, click here. A memorial – please donate

Following a discussion on Heroes & Villains, the fanzine received permission from the club to erect a plaque to those players, officials and supporters who served in wartime. This will be on public display somewhere around the ground. After talking to a plaque manufacturer, they have come up with suitable wording, along the lines of In grateful remembrance of those players, officials and supporters of Aston Villa FC who served their country in wartime, and in particular Bill Bowker, Arthur Dobson, Alfred Edwards, Billy Gerrish…

Poll: Your views on last night’s FA Cup

Last night, Villa played Man City in the FA Cup, with key players rested. Although the team had experienced internationals playing, it was not their strongest team. Was it right to weaken the team, putting the Premier League first, or should we have had a right go at Man City with our strongest team? Sports managers, club representatives and fans are among witnesses expected to be called by the committee. The inquiry has been prompted by the rows relating to debts at…

Too big to fail to notice

An insightful piece by Dave Boyle, Supporters Direct When clubs like Chesterfield and Exeter became owned by crooks, people didn’t seem to care that much, because neither were big clubs, like Liverpool. When Portsmouth’s owners turned out to have been functionally innumerate, or broke, or maybe to not even exist (or maybe all of those things), people didn’t seem to care much because Portsmouth were just a small club which seemed bigger just by dint of the league it played in. It wasn’t a big…
