RULE CHANGES

The current rules under which Aston Villa Supporters’ Trust operates were adopted on its formation in 2001. The Trust’s directors have given thought to those rules; after much discussion, and to bring the rules in line with current practice are recommending that we adopt a model set of rules used by many Supporters Trusts of a similar size. Those rules are sponsored by Supporters Direct and approved by The Financial Conduct Authority. In short, the rules set out the constitution of the Trust and cover,…

SIR DOUG ELLIS 1924 – 2018

On behalf of our members, we are sad to read of Sir Doug’s death. Fully committed to Aston Villa until the last and also a generous contributor to the  Trust he will be missed by all who came into contact with him. Whilst at times a divisive figure he was a great custodian of our Club. Our condolences to his family and friends.

Managerial Search (part 257)

So it is goodbye Bruce and hello to whoever is the replacement.

We make a point at the Trust of not overstepping our boundaries on what happens on the pitch. We might have a view on how the football side is going. Though primarily we are here to represent supporters on a variety of issues such as ticket pricing, safe standing etc…. We also work in the community by supporting grassroots football. It isn’t for us to demand the manager’s head on a pike outside the ground on a match day.

It is worth comment though re Bruce. He came, made us defensively tighter initially and left us pretty much where we started and a fair few quid worse off.

Some members have been sharpening that pike I mentioned before for a long time and others would still give him more time to resolve things. Such is life.

We won’t comment on who the club might bring in next at this point. But all we will say is that more of the same won’t be tolerated. We need an appointment that shows some ambition, both to get promoted but also to keep us up, should we be successful in that. Something enjoyable to watch would be a start.

I guess our message is to thank him for stopping the rot but agree that maybe someone else needs a shot if we are to achieve promotion. Onwards and upwards.

Time to move forward

Following our request for a meeting, we are pleased to confirm that the Club has reached out to us. The Club has confirmed that Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens understand their roles as stewards of the Club on behalf of its true owners, the fans and, take that responsibility seriously. Both are looking forward to engaging with us and we look forward to meeting with them.

Investment in Aston Villa

Members and supporters will no doubt be delighted to hear of the 55% investment made by Messrs Sawiris and Edens. This appears to have resolved the short-term funding issue faced by our football club. Whilst it is acknowledged that the last two weeks must have been difficult for senior people at the club, it is disappointing that they did not respond to our request for a meeting. Accordingly, we have repeated that request and are hopeful that on this occasion we will be able to…

A Demand Before Action?

Hello everyone. We hope you are enjoying the weather. It has been two weeks since we last posted anything so thought we should keep you up to date. The AVST board met earlier this week and still have grave misgivings about our current situation. We have asked questions and demanded an urgent meeting but it has fallen on deaf ears. So we now write an open letter to the owner seeking urgent clarification on where we stand. Dear Tony, We are writing to you to…

It is a start, but….

Another week, what seems like another 500 years of fretting about the Villa. First of all, welcome aboard to our new members. I know that we have attracted some attention in these uncertain times and we will do all we can to ensure the club is on an even keel. As always though, not only is your voice important but so is that of your friends and family members. Please encourage them to sign up as well. The more members we have the more potent…

What next? (Part Two)

The AVST Board love the Summer normally. It is when we get to step away from football, watch a bit of cricket and do all of the family stuff we put off for ten months each year. It hasn’t worked out like that over the last few days though… We released a statement what seems like weeks rather than days ago now requesting that the club make clear to our members, and all supporters, what Plan B entails. We said that our support can deal…
