The AVST was deeply saddened to hear the news earlier today of the death of Dalian Atkinson. Whilst it is too early to comment on the circumstances, we extend our thoughts and best wishes to his family at this difficult time.
Fans of all clubs will remember Dalian for “that goal” against Wimbledon. However, we also remember him as being part of one of the most exciting to watch teams we have fielded.
We will always think fondly of the important goals he scored in our run to League Cup victory 1994. Who could forget his semi final heroics where his late goal at Tranmere dragged us back into the tie or the header that caused the roof to come off the Holte End when he scored that late goal in the reverse.
Dalian was one of the most naturally talented players we have seen. He could exhilirate and infuriate in equal measure, but on his day he was genuinely unplayable.
He was highly regarded by his colleagues and will be sorely missed.
RIP.
