AVST is pleased at the appointment of Roberto Di Matteo. He has a good pedigree and has taken another just relegated team up at the first time of asking as part of that. We wish every success.
We are delighted to see that Steve Clarke will be his Assistant Manager. A highly regarded coach, with recent knowledge of the Championship, we are sure he will be an important voice in the dressing room and at Bodymoor Heath.
Welcome aboard both. You have a lot to do and can start with removing those that were so influential in the dressing room disharmony last season.
It is the first of many jobs that needs doing this Summer. Presuming the takeover happens without a hitch (and the appointment of these two suggests it will) then we next need to quickly put into place a board capable of looking after Aston Villa’s interests in the longer term.
We must learn from the mistakes of the past and have everyone back on the same side if we are to return to our rightful place amongst the elite of English clubs.
We welcomed the takeover with cautious optimism. We want to drop the cautious part as soon as possible.
