Ron Saunders changed Aston Villa forever. As today’s players run past the famous European Cup trophy before every home game, it shows what’s possible at our remarkable club. Even our first league title in 71 years was put in the shade by the remarkable victory over Bayern Munich. Though his assistant Tony Barton took charge, Ron was the architect of Rotterdam.
In fact he built two great teams at Villa and fans that remember the time debate even today which was the better, the 1977 side which finished fourth and won the League Cup or the 81 and 82 team. Ron even won silverware before that in 1975 with another League Cup.
We mourn his loss and are forever thankful for his unforgettable reign as Villa manager.
