The Trust is sorry to see Dean Smith leave the service of our Club.
He is one of our own, gave us our pride back and belief in the Club we all love. He lifted us from 14th in the Championship and back to the Premier League. Some great memories, the ten game-winning run leading to the Playoff Final at Wembley and another appearance there the following season. This time in the League Cup.
However, recent performances have been very disappointing. Particularly after the substantial expenditure on new players this season. It’s a result-driven business. There may have been mitigating circumstances, a lack of preseason, availability of players, whether because of illness or injury. We understand the Club’s decision to make a change at this point in the season.
We pay tribute to Dean Smith for what he has achieved at Aston Villa. We wish him and his family all the very best for the future.
It’s hoped that the Club will be able to make an early appointment as Dean’s replacement. A manager who understands the expectations that come with the history and traditions of Aston Villa Football Club.
